THE DETOX JOURNEY

Getting ready for Opizone
When you have been prescribed Opizone (naltrexone) and are getting ready to start your treatment, it may help to think about the following points:

  • You will need to have not taken opiates for seven to ten days before you start taking Opizone. Your prescriber/key worker will advise you when to start.
  • It is important that you know about how taking Opizone affects your use of other medicines that contain opiates. See Important points page.
  • You have to be sure that you will not forget to take your medication. It may help to ask a family or friend to remind you or even to watch you take it if you are worried you might slip. Support from family and friends both during and after your detox can be very helpful.
  • You should be sure that you know what to do if you have any side-effects while taking Opizone. See Important points page.
  • You should be prepared to tell your prescriber/key worker first if you want to stop taking Opizone at any time.
