OPIZONE TREATMENT
Stopping Opizone
Tell your prescriber/key worker if you want to stop taking Opizone (naltrexone), whatever the reason.
Many people find that they are eventually able to lead drug-free lives – although this is can be after several attempts at stopping – and Opizone is a tool which may help them to achieve this.
However, if you have decided to start using opiates again, please remember that:
- When you stop taking Opizone, you will most likely be more
sensitive to opiates because you will have lost your tolerance to their effect. This means you could accidentally overdose just by using what was your normal amount of opiate before you detoxed. Anything other than small doses of opiates could be fatal.
- Opizone could still be working for two to three days after your last dose. Don’t be tempted to overcome this block with increasing doses of opiates or you will risk overdose.
- You should discuss your options with your prescriber/key worker. It may be possible to go back on to a maintenance prescription, eg methadone or buprenorphine.
